APPLICATION TIMELINE:
To Apply for a Part Time Firefighter Position, you must:
• Submit application and certification
• Background check
• Meet with Deputy Chief
• Schedule Physical ability test
• NFPA Physical - either current departmental or schedule
• TB records
• Hepatitis B or Waiver Signed
• Orientation meeting with Lieutenants
• Issue turn out gear
Applications are being accepted for the next scheduling period. The
six month schedules are developed in July for the months September
through February; or in January for the months March through August.

PART TIME FIREFIGHTER POSITION INFORMATION:
A. NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible skilled work in combating, extinguishing, and
preventing fires. Work involves training for and participating in the
protection of life and property by fire fighting, fire prevention, fire
education, and rescue activities. Work includes fire fighting, rescue,
emergency medical care, efficient operation of equipment, and
maintenance of facilities and equipment. Although work is performed
under general supervision and established regulations, it requires
initiative, and an individual understanding of fire fighting, fire
prevention, rescue methods, and emergency medical techniques. Command
officers will review work through inspections, observation, and results
obtained. Part Time Firefighters will not be assigned to work as part of
a two-person team with a Reserve, or another Part Time Firefighter.
B. TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK
• A Part Time Firefighter will work under the direction of the on shift
E.O., and will be assigned daily duties by the on shift Lieutenant. A
Part Time Firefighter will always work as part of a team of at least two
at any emergency scene or hazardous situation. A non-probationary
employee of the department shall supervise the team.
• Lays and controls hose lines, erects ladders, performs rescues, and
participates in all fire fighting operations.
• Performs fire inspection work, pre-incident planning, and fire
education.
• Watches operation of meters and pumps and makes necessary adjustments
or charges.
• Attends instruction sessions in such subjects as fire fighting
methods, equipment operations, hydraulics, street, hydrant and fire
alarm locations, departmental activities, and complete the in-house
field training program.
• Responds to rescue and emergency calls. Administers first aid and
emergency medical treatment as required.
• Keeps the fire station in a clean and orderly condition.
• Checks and maintains pumps, apparatus, and other fire fighting
equipment.
• Performs related work as required.
• Performs assigned vehicle and station maintenance.
• Works a 12-hour or 24-hour shift.

C. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
• Thorough knowledge of modern fire fighting equipment and its
efficient use.
• Thorough knowledge of geography, streets, and important locations in
the Township.
• Considerable knowledge of elementary principals of hydraulics as
applied to fire fighting activities.
• Considerable knowledge of first responder and emergency medical
techniques.
• Considerable knowledge of general fire fighting and rescue methods.
• Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions, to accept
authority, and to work effectively with other employees.
D. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
• Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council - Fire Fighter I & II
certified.
• Michigan Department of Public Health - Medical First Responder
License.
• AED certified.
• Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council - Hazmat Awareness.
• Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council - Hazmat Operations.
• Current CPR card.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License.
• Completion of FFTC drivers training course.
• Meet NFPA 1582 requirements.
• Must be an active member of a fire department in the State of
Michigan.
E. EQUIPMENT
• Must use PPE issued by this department only. All assigned equipment
must be left at station when not working.
